This website is the home for the publications of the Orpington History Organisation. Please navigate the site to explore our books and which options there are to buy them. Our publications are a ‘labour of love’. We teamed up with Amberley publishing in 2012 to ensure that our publications would be avaliable far and wide. This also includes being made avaliable in digital format. Any profit made by the OHO (which is a small royality %) is used to fund our exhibition material, pay for our talks and to purchase items for our collection.

Lost Orpington and Around

Established in 2008, Amberley Publishing is the home of a series of several ever-popular colour local history publications. Amberley is an independent publisher of books on a rich variety of history and heritage. In addition to local history, their impressive catalogue of c.3000 titles includes print and e-books across many subject areas of such as transport, industry, general history, sport, military and niche specialist interests.
Around Orpington Through Time invites you to explore the fascinating history of Orpington and its district through 'then and now' photographs. The Industrial Revolution of the latter part of the nineteenth century had a big impact on the area, along with the coming of the railway in the 1860s, and the arterial road built in the 1920s changed Orpington forever. Orpington and the surrounding areas have played their part on the world stage, but it is the change within the past 100 years that this book focuses on. Covering Orpington, Chelsfield, Crofton, Downe, Farnborough, Green Street Green, Locksbottom, Petts Wood, Pratt's Bottom, St Mary Cray and St Paul's Cray, this is a 'must-have' step back in time for any resident or visitor familiar with the area.
The Orpington and Around History Tour takes the reader on a historical tour; with the help of a handy location map, readers are invited along to discover how Orpington’s most recognisable locations and hidden-away gems have changed over time.
